The Baby Countdown!

I haven’t commented on the presidential campaign in a bit, and now that Obama is over in the Holy Land—I can’t quite make out what he is doing there, but piecing together reports from the media accompanying him, I think he has been walking on the Sea of Galilee—let me offer just a few observations now.

Having already made it clear that I will not be voting for either gentleman, thus keeping my voting principles unsullied, this question may arise: “Given that it will be one or the other, who do you hope will win it?” If Obama is elected, I will have four years of being appalled. If McCain is elected, I will have four years of being disgusted. This means the question amounts to a psychological one—do you prefer being appalled or disgusted?

For those who hold a pragmatic, hold-your-nose vote is appropriate, they might think that it comes down to a choice between a pro-life, imperial hawk (McCain) and a pro-choice peacenik (Obama). I am afraid I read that one a little differently. In reference to the rise of American empire, the historian Charles Beard once commented that empires are not built in fits of absent-mindedness.

An aside: I am using empire here as a metaphor for American hegemony. I know that we are not an empire in the classic sense defined by the history of Rome, or even England. There are some striking differences. But the hegemony is still a reality, and it is a reality that did not come about by accident.

But this means any notion of American imperialism that thinks this is a function of what the Republicans are doing is an analysis that is superficial in the extreme. Historically, the Democrats have been neck-deep in the business, even more than the Republicans. The classic “isolationist” response has its historic home in the Republican Party.

I say this because a vote for Obama will not be a vote against American hegemony around the world. The Republicrats are all driving us to the same place. We are on a road trip with two people in the car who both want to drive, one to take in these sights on the way, the other wants to take in those. But the destination is not really a question. McCain is in favor of a vigorous and open assertion of our intentions, and Obama will allow employees from the State Department to massage our intentions as only they can do. As far as empire goes, McCain will be for honest empire and Obama for dishonest empire. But nothing substantive will really change on that front.

As far as the pro-life question is concerned (which in my mind is the great question), a McCain election might result in the overturning of Roe v. Wade. I am not holding my breath, but if it happens, I will rejoice. An Obama election will remove that possibility for another generation, at least.

The one blessing I can see that would come from an Obama election would be that it would shut up those young evangelicals who are hot for Obama. Three months of Obama in the White House would appall me, as I said, but it would make it impossible for anyone who even pretends to have respect for Scripture to behave the way you can do at a campaign rally—before anything has actually been done. More on that later perhaps.

I suppose this is an easy one for me to do since I really hate McDonalds food anyway and already mostly avoided it.

I know we have to pick our battles, but it looks like this boycott is gaining momentum…

I realize that probably every major food chain has some problem or other but maybe this will send a message, and McDonalds is being very open and flaunting this one right in our faces.

The following is a poem written by Judge Roy Moore from Alabama . Judge Moore was sued by the ACLU for displaying the Ten Commandments in his courtroom foyer. He has been stripped of his judgeship and now they are trying to strip his right to practice law in Alabama ! The judge’s poem sums it up quite well.

America the beautiful,
or so you used to be.
Land of the Pilgrims’ pride;
I’m glad they’ll never see.

Babies piled in dumpsters,
Abortion on demand,
Oh, sweet land of liberty;
your house is on the sand.

Our children wander aimlessly
poisoned by cocaine
choosing to indulge their lusts,
when God has said abstain

From sea to shining sea,
our Nation turns away
From the teaching of God’s love
and a need to always pray

We’ve kept God in our temples,
how callous we have grown.
When earth is but His footstool,
and Heaven is His throne.

We’ve voted in a government
that’s rotting at the core,
Appointing Godless Judges;
who throw reason out the door,

Too soft to place a killer
in a well deserved tomb,
But brave enough to kill a baby
before he leaves the womb.

You think that God’s not angry,
that our land’s a moral slum?
How much longer will He wait
before His judgment comes?

How are we to face our God,
from Whom we cannot hide?
What then is left for us to do,
but stem this evil tide?

If we who are His children,
will humbly turn and pray;
Seek His HolyFace
and mend our evil way:

Then God will hear from Heaven;
and forgive us of our sins,
He’ll heal our sickly land
and those who live within.

But, America the Beautiful, If you don’t - the one you will see,
A sad but Holy God
withdraw His hand from Thee.

Okay, so I was listening to Phil Valentine on SuperTalk 99.7 (Nashville area station), and I heard him talking about how the Government is mandating the use of Ethanol in gasoline and how 30% of our corn is now used for the production of Ethanol (I also read it somewhere, can’t remember where now). Of course as a result food prices go up and fuel prices go up (and like any conservative talk show host he was outraged!).

You see, what we have here is the government meddling in things it has no business with! Whenever you add the government in on the mix, doesn’t matter what it is… unless it has to do with the biblical place of government which is punishing evil doers, then it’s just a mess! Just take a look around in this country and you can see this phenomenon at work. Anything our government touches falls all to pieces. But that’s what happens when you interfere with Capitalism, it’s just not Capitalism anymore!

You know what’s crazy? As the government messes our Capitalism up more and more, people start screaming more and more for the government to come in and fix the problem. I hear it all the time, “The government needs to do something about the economy.”

O yeah… like what? See the problem is any problem we are having with our economy is already because of government involvement and regulations. They can’t fix something they aren’t supposed to be messing with. And yet it seems that the driving issue for most Americans in this election is “what will the candidate do for the economy?” I can answer that, if he’s a Godly candidate that knows the Biblical place of government, and if he understands capitalism, he will do NOTHING for the economy except LEAVE IT STINKING ALONE!

I hear all this non-sense about sending Americans some sum of money (I’ve heard different numbers on the amount of money, I think it may vary depending on some criterion or other), this is of course tax money. And I’ve even heard Pres. Bush refer to it as a booster shot in the arm for the economy. It really just makes me sick. It sounds a lot like a re-distribution of wealth to me.

You know, there is a system wherein the government interferes with the economy, and where wealth is re-distributed. It’s called SOCIALISM!

So in general I have 3 categories I can place political candidates in. In theory there’s 4, but I’ve never heard of a candidate fitting into number 4. So here are the categories:

  1. Dead in a Ditch: This is the category where I’d rather be dead in a ditch than to see this person in office
  2. Hold my Nose: This is the category where if they make it into office I can hold my nose and the stink doesn’t smell so bad. In some cases, if there is no other option I could vote for someone in this category… maybe...
  3. The Realm of Sanity: There is usually some little things I wish weren’t so with this candidate, but by and large like them.
  4. GODSEND: I don’t know any candidate anywhere or time that I would put in this category.

So let’s see, where does that leave me in the current state of politics in our country in regards to presidential elections?

  • Hillary “rob’em” Clinton - Dead in a Ditch
  • Barack Obamanation - Dead in a Ditch
  • John McPain - Dead in a Ditch

Well, well… I’m already starting to feel the muddy ditch water closing around me… there are no sane persons left in this country save but a very few…

Did we really need more evidence that this guy is not of Christ?
