I mentioned in a previous post that Allen had found his thumb. Technically that is not quite true. I found him with his thumb in his mouth when he was only a couple days old. This led me to suspect that he had been sucking it in-utero and we would have problems with it later. However, as he didn’t have enough motor control to find it consistently thereafter, merely putting his whole fist in his mouth, I put it out of my mind. But last week he started sucking his thumb quite regularly.
We would very much like to get him to stop before he forms a habit as we don’t want it to cause orthodontic problems later on. This evening we tried a mitten on his hand. You can see how well that worked.
If anyone has any suggestions we would be glad to hear them.

I wouldn’t worry about it. If he’s older and still doing thumb-sucking, then maybe you’ll need to do something. Maybe.
Honestly, babies aren’t nearly as fragile as we think they are. Stuff that would have stressed me out with Arianna (my oldest) barely impacts me with Justice (my youngest).
Besides, have you considered that God gave us the thumb to suck on? And that, perhaps, it is actually better than (say) a pacifier?
And do you want your son eating yarn? :-D
You forget, I have 7 brothers and sisters
! Trouble with the thumb is you can’t take it away when they are 7 years old. Which is why after number 5 my dad determined that it would only be pacifiers, no thumbs or fingers!!
It won’t be the end of the world if he sucks his thumb… but I would rather not go that route.
No, yarn is not good, (LOL) which is why we have abandoned that method for the time being.
I have noticed that he doesn’t suck his thumb in his sleep...at least not yet. At least we can be thankful for that.
